Since we’re all still very much in need of ways to de-stress while spending more time at home, it’s always a good idea to have a few TV shows lined up in case you’re in the mood. From makeup and fashion contests, through food challenges, and evergreen comedy/drama series, television has something for everyone. And then some.
Here are 5 shows that will help you zone out and zone into your relax mode. Disclaimer: some of these may lead to uncontrollable binge-watching on the couch, be warned!
1. Glow Up
If you often find yourself gravitating toward YouTube’s endless pool of makeup and beauty tutorials, then Glow Up will be just the thing you’re missing. It’s BBC Three’s creation, a TV show that has Britain looking for the best aspiring makeup artist on the island.
2. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
If you’re looking for another one of Amy Sherman-Palladino’s creations (Gilmore Girls, ahem), this series won’t disappoint. It is set in 1958 New York, where housewife Midge Maisel (played by Rachel Brosnahan) gets her newly married life turned upside down. Her salvation, turns out, is stand-up comedy and all the challenges that come with being a female comedian in those days.
3. The Great British Baking Show – One of TV’s finest
Now that we’ve taken care of beauty and laughs, it’s time to get down to business: food. Who doesn’t love a good cooking show? Especially when it has cooking legend Mary Berry and celebrity chef Paul Hollywood as the two judges (well, not on all seasons, but most). From the notorious Victoria sponge to bread week and making the perfect puff pastry, you’ll see contenders breaking a sweat at each turn.
4. How I Met Your Mother
On to evergreens! Ted and his flashback story to his two kids as to how he met their mother will keep you glued to the screen for days on end. HIMYM, as it came to be known, is the perfect blend of light humor, lasting friendship, adventure, romance, tidbits of drama, and a reminiscent vibe of Friends.
5. Downton Abbey
If you’re a sucker for period dramas minus the heavy drama, Downton Abbey is the perfect choice. Set in an early 20th century British mansion where the worst thing that could ever happen is to fail at polishing the silver, the series offers a great combination of humor, romance, and intrigue. Just lay on the couch and prep for a pleasant binge-watch session!
